For the Capstone project, it was mostly straight-forward
thinking about it. It was mostly following instructions, asking questions,
reminding me of what I do at the Facilities for community service. It somewhat
reminds me of an office job but it focuses more-so hands on if anything. It was
pretty easy going working with my mentor and trying to solve problems with him.
It really helped me to try and ask for help more. When it came to the research
paper portion of the project, I was really frustrated and kept over-complicated
things and ideas for the paper that I ended up re-writing the final draft with
a whole new topic and aim.
What I gained from the Capstone experience personally was
what I really wanted to do career wise. I wanted something to focus more on the
creative, free side of computers opposed to the technicalities and inside of
hardware, as interesting and beneficial it would be for me in the future since
I really adore computers, it wouldn’t be something I enjoy. I feel like I
became more professional in being in a real office environment which helps me a
lot since I aim to work in some sort of corporate office of some sort. Not only
that, but it also provided me with insight on this particular area which was
something I was interested in, so at least I have a taste of what I could work
with and with the fact that I am not so…interested in pursuing such a career. Socially,
I gained the courage to ask for help when I definitely needed it after I couldn’t
solve a problem, which was something I definitely needed to improve on since I
try to work on my own and not depend on help all the time. Intellectually…well
things went over my head since it was a lot to take it, and I really don’t like
technicality talk so it was somewhat hard to grasp when working.
Some challenges, like said, were asking for help when I
needed it. After a demonstration I would have to do it on my own with my mentor
watching him, but it was hard since not only did I have someone watching me,
which I really find nerve wrecking, but also I tried not to mess up. When I
finally just couldn’t perform the task given, I asked for help finally, after I
couldn’t do it on my own. Another challenge was the times. I thought to myself,
I can’t complete 25 hours of work, and I hoped that I wouldn’t be a burden to
my mentor for such hours but thankfully we scheduled set days and hours for when
to work.
