Blog Reflection

For the Capstone project, it was mostly straight-forward thinking about it. It was mostly following instructions, asking questions, reminding me of what I do at the Facilities for community service. It somewhat reminds me of an office job but it focuses more-so hands on if anything. It was pretty easy going working with my mentor and trying to solve problems with him. It really helped me to try and ask for help more. When it came to the research paper portion of the project, I was really frustrated and kept over-complicated things and ideas for the paper that I ended up re-writing the final draft with a whole new topic and aim.

What I gained from the Capstone experience personally was what I really wanted to do career wise. I wanted something to focus more on the creative, free side of computers opposed to the technicalities and inside of hardware, as interesting and beneficial it would be for me in the future since I really adore computers, it wouldn’t be something I enjoy. I feel like I became more professional in being in a real office environment which helps me a lot since I aim to work in some sort of corporate office of some sort. Not only that, but it also provided me with insight on this particular area which was something I was interested in, so at least I have a taste of what I could work with and with the fact that I am not so…interested in pursuing such a career. Socially, I gained the courage to ask for help when I definitely needed it after I couldn’t solve a problem, which was something I definitely needed to improve on since I try to work on my own and not depend on help all the time. Intellectually…well things went over my head since it was a lot to take it, and I really don’t like technicality talk so it was somewhat hard to grasp when working.

Some challenges, like said, were asking for help when I needed it. After a demonstration I would have to do it on my own with my mentor watching him, but it was hard since not only did I have someone watching me, which I really find nerve wrecking, but also I tried not to mess up. When I finally just couldn’t perform the task given, I asked for help finally, after I couldn’t do it on my own. Another challenge was the times. I thought to myself, I can’t complete 25 hours of work, and I hoped that I wouldn’t be a burden to my mentor for such hours but thankfully we scheduled set days and hours for when to work.

Final Post~

Saturday -  5 Hours - 18 Total
Sunday - 5 Hours - 23 Total
Monday - 2 Hours - 25 Total

DONE AND OVER WITH. Over the weekend, including today, I went over to my mentor and did my final hours. I can finally say that I am done, and I am so relieved! I did around five hours both Saturday and Sunday, and the last two hours today, marking my 25 hours done and finished and everything.
Yes!

What I did on both days were somewhat relaxing projects. I worked with the computer system, and how each one manages the other's network. Mostly examining how it works, and the way the other computer operate on that. I also did some slight, very moderate programming, such as the basics on checking how each works and if it runs smoothly.

Day 7

5 Hours - 13 Hours

Ugh...went to work more today. Well earlier today. I'm so close to getting this done! I did about..I think 4 hours or 5. Give or take if you really wanna be specific.

This day my mentor and I had a discussion on the importance of the management factor and each department and which works with what. After this, I got to work on the motherboard and finish putting together the pieces that he had me use.

Day 6

3 Hours - 8 hours Total

Went to work again for capstone over the weekend. So tired. Worked for two days, around 2-3 hours both days. Nothing too special really.

I got to work on a motherboard today. It was already broken, but it was like operation, though instead of pulling the items out, I was putting them back in. After that, my mentor and I started to look at programming on the computer, but it was nothing much to do besides that.

Day 4

Just a quick update, I recently finished (finally) working on the first draft of the research paper. The topic of the paper was the advancements of computer engineering, specifically in the hardware and software. I also talk about parts of a microprocessor and stuff..so yeah. So far I only got a few hours in, but bah. Okay

I'm done. This paper was extremely stressful, and I swear it made me wanna cry. I sucked it up, and got it done though! Woot! Okay.

Day 3

This is simply exhausting. I'm finally starting on the body of the research paper and I can this much that it is SO STRESSFUL. Granted, its only the first draft, and its easy-peasy for others, but writing about...advancements of computer engineering, software and hardware, is pretty difficult. Bah! Alright. Time to get back to the paper. Sigh...

Fiscal Cliff Response

A quicky about the positions and opinions of the Democrats and Republicans on the infamous...FISCAL CLIFF!

The Democrats are, if anything, for the fiscal cliff. They talk about cutting the prices for medicare and medicaid but they really don't care about the spending. They are ALL for the debt! They also believe that if they aren't the ones to reduce the taxes or rise them on certain groups (middle class for example) then no one will do it because they believe that the Republicans will avoid such an idea and action. This will be abused by the Republicans. The Republicans on the other hand are totally against the fiscal cliff. They are absolutely against spending altogether and debts and they also do not care about the opinions of the people.

First off I narrowed the search by link name. The following links are .com(s) sites but usually when doing researches I would go by .org or .net. I would then briefly skim over the content of each site I visited, using CTRL+F to hunt down the key words that I need to look for to see if it's actually worth my time to read over. Another thing that I did when searching was change my search terms. Such as opinions, or view, or position for each party, and getting new and some same links that they provided. What was most helpful abuot the way I searched besides address names and tems were if they were blogs or simple opinions by the general public (or a site. whichever).
